ENERGY WISE INDIA

Energy Wise India (EWI) is a public-private partnership to increase industrial energy efficiency in India. Funded by the US Agency for International Development (USAID), EWI is a program of the US Asia Environmental Partnership (USAEP), promoting cleaner and more efficient cities and industries in Asia.

EWI is developing innovative strategies and tools to help Indian companies identify opportunities to improve their energy efficiency and implement cost-effective projects. Though our work with EWI Corporate Champions, we found that ongoing challenge facing utility managers is quantifying the savings from energy efficiency projects, not only in order to justify investment to their own management, but also when considering performance contracts with energy service providers. Knowing a facility's baseline energy consumption is fundamental to good energy management. However, the vast majority of facilities (worldwide) do not know their baseline energy data or the distribution of their load over equipment and departments.

The Certificate in Energy Conservation is intended to teach students and graduates of The Industrial Training Institutes how to identify, track, and report energy conservation opportunities related to the electrical systems of industrial facilities. The course demonstrates how the knowledge that the technicians gained during their apprenticeship can be practically applied to conserve energy, save money and benefit the environment.

By targeting the technicians that operate and maintain industrial machines and equipment, the course will introduce EE concepts and practices directly to the shop floor. These technicians have intimate knowledge of the day to day operations of the facility and are ideally placed to identify inefficient procedures, implement good housekeeping practices, and spread the word of energy conservation to an audience that may previously have been overlooked.
