The first Foundation Day of BEE was celebrated on 1st March, 2007 to mark 5th anniversary of the enactment of Energy Conservation Act, 2001. Sh. Anil Razdan, Secretary, Ministry of Power, Govt. of India was the chief Guest and delivered the inaugural Foundation Day Lecture.

The function was held at Ashoka Hotel and was attended by Senior Officers from Ministry of Power, other Ministries, International Organisations, British High Commission, Central Electricity Authority and other experts in energy sector. On this occasion, Secretary (Power) stressed the need to convert energy conservation in to a mass movement. He pointed out to the need to emulate countries which have successfully put the energy conservation agenda as a part of the daily life. The unique opportunity of habitual conservation in India ethos must be rekindled for this purpose. Educating Children, awareness programmes and demonstrative pilots, particularly in agriculture sector using ESCO model, were some of the important thrust areas outlined by him.

On this occasion, Secretary (Power) felicitated the former Directors of EMC and former Directors General of BEE. All employees of BEE having put in more then 10 years of service were also honoured.
