Had organized Energy Awareness Programme on 25th January 2005 invited engineers, managers and supervisory staff related to each departments to make awareness and explain the concept and importance of Energy Conservation.

Have recently commissioned computerized energy management system for close monitoring of the power consumption equipment wise, department wise and feeder wise. Based on the actual power consumption we have assigned target of power consumption of each equipment, department & feeder.

Also have reconstituted Energy Conservation Committee with engineers/ managers of each department. This committee is meeting on daily to review the power consumption and prepare action plan for any abnormality. The status of action plan to be reviewed with our unit head fortnightly/ monthly basis.

Have mainly focused on following areas:

• Installation of variable frequency drives on equipments.
• Comparison of power consumption of similar equipments and identify less efficient equipments to make corrective action.
• Responsibility and accountability for the each area was assigned.
• Monitoring & optimizing the efficiency of each fans, pumps, blowers, agitators, compressors, heaters etc.
• During night vigilance round by the engineers / officers the illumination study will also be carried out and remove the lights which are actually not necessary.
• Installation of energy efficient tube lights in the office/ plant
• Water conservation.
• Steam & air distribution & monitoring.

i. Internal cleaning (Steam – Air decoking). Need is determined by monitoring tube metal temperatures.
ii. External cleaning

2. Advanced Process control, trading off between energy cost and yield benefits:

i. Optimal reflux ratio / operating pressure within tower physical restraints and target product compositions
ii. Maximize pump around reflux to improve heat recovery to feed
iii. Pre-heat pick-up – Control of heat integrated units utilizing hot feeds
iv. Fired heater advanced computer control
v. Control steam stripping by adjusting steam rate to maintain Steam/ Product or Steam / Catalyst ratios.

3. Attending steam leaks and fully steam traps. “Call Center” concept is being followed.

4. Minimum usage of pressure reduction station for matching steam pressure
