In exercise of the Power under sub-section (4) of section 131 of the Electricity Ac, 2003. Government of West Bengal through the Kolkata Gazette notification no: 12-PO/0/111/3R-29/2006 dated 25th January, 2007 restructured West Bengal State Electricity Board (WBSEB) in two successor entities namely:

West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (WBSEDCL)
West Bengal State Electricity Transmission Company Ltd (WBSETCL)

New Companies are registered under Indian Company Act 1956 and Started their functioning on and from 1.4.2007.
