Energy Conservation Act, 2001 has come into force with effect from 1st
March 2002 keeping in view of importance and benefits of energy efficiency.
The schedule to the Energy Conservation Act provides list of energy intensive
industries and other establishments, specified as Designated consumers.
Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) has approved notification of such of
the industrial units as Designated Consumers. The site gives complete
information about the Energy Conservation Act, 2001.
In order to facilitate implementation of EC Act, it is considered necessary
to develop an interactive website, which is interfaced with an effective
database and a powerful search engine to provide fast / accurate and
user-friendly search results to industries, energy managers, energy auditors
etc.

fee?
If you are a manufacturer/ supplier of any equipment, you may register
as a "supplier" (select suppliers" from the drop down
menu of "type of registration"). It may be noted that, those
who register as a "supplier", only can post their equipments
details, which includes specifications/ image of the respective equipment,
supplier's name and contact information. If you are a energy audit firm
you may register as “Energy Audit Firm” (select ‘Energy
Audit Firm’ from the drop down menu of ‘Type of Registration’).
All others are "individual" only.

is Energy Conservation Act?
Government of India has enacted the Energy Conservation Act, 2001 keeping
in view of importance and benefits of energy efficiency. The Schedule
to the Energy Conservation Act provides list of energy Intensive Industries
and other establishments, specified as Designated consumers. As the notified
Designated consumer has to take up certain activities mandatory under
the Act, the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) has approved notification
of such of the industrial units as Designated Consumers.
A Designated Consumer has to designate or appoint
energy manager possessing a minimum qualification
[to be notified in the Regulation]. The energy manager
occupies an important position and is focal point
of all the activities pertaining to energy Management
in the organization. He will have certain mandatory
duties & responsibilities that will be prescribed
in the Regulation to the Act. The energy manager
is expected to develop an energy Management Action
Plan for the industrial unit and can play key role
in the formulation of corporate energy policy. The
energy manager has also to furnish information relating
to energy consumption of the industrial unit to the
BEE and state level designated agency as required
under the Act. The energy manager has to also implement
the recommendation of the Accredited energy auditor.

What is energy audit?
Energy audit involves a systematic study undertaken on major energy consuming
sections and equipments including construction of heat and mass balance
with a view to identify the flow of energy, utilization efficiency of
energy in each of the steps and pin-point wasteful energy used.
In the Energy Conservation Act, the definition of
energy audit has been expanded to mean the verification,
monitoring and analysis of use of energy, including
submission of technical report containing recommendations
for improving energy efficiency with cost benefit
analysis, and an action plan to reduce energy consumption.
Implementation of recommended measures can help consumes
to achieve significant reduction in their energy
consumption levels.
Energy audit identifies opportunities for financial
savings by elimination of wasteful use of electricity,
coal and fuel oil, without affecting the process
or quality of product. A well-conducted energy audit
would reveal the areas of wastage of energy and it
would be possible to suggest saving of energy. The

Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Ministry of Power, Govt. of India,
is empowered to specify, by regulations, the following in this regards:
a. Certification procedure for energy manager [Clause
13(2)(r)]
b. Qualification for Accredited energy auditors [Clause 13(2)(p)]
c. Periodic energy audits with well defined norms [Clause 13(2) (q)]
As per the Energy Conservation Act (2001), it is
mandatory for all designated energy consumers to
get the energy audit conducted by an accredited energy
auditor.

While Submitting the technical paper all participants have to furnish

The technical paper should be sent as an attachment in the form: MS
Word, Adobe acrobat. No technical paper sent by post will be accepted.
One person can submit one paper.
The technical paper submitted will be reviewed by a technical committee.
The decision of the committee is final and cannot be challenged under
any circumstances.
The Technical Papers should reach before the last date mentioned in
the issue. All participants have to send their technical papers through

duration, award of certification, and other general terms and conditions
about fee, procedures for certification of energy auditor etc. On successful
passing of the national level examination, award of energy manager /

BEE has successfully conducted 2 examinations of
Energy Manager / Energy Auditor on 22 – 23rd
May 2004 and May 28 – 29, 2005.
